THE CAROL LEWIS MEMORIAL TROPHY

Despite mainly wet weather, The Carol Lewis Memorial Trophy was a resounding success  It’s a handicap event and the eventual winner was 14 year old Jack Good from Bury Croquet Club – he is clearly a croquet star of the future and defeated the slightly (!) older Alan Pidcock in the final. We had two late entrants – a very new player who had only played a match once before, and his brother, who hadn’t played for 30 years after being extremely successful in his younger days. It was a pleasure to see croquet again being played after the covid restrictions. It was a damp day enjoyed by all – we now look forward to our league fixtures throughout the summer.

1st Tournament of this year is Saturday 15th May

WE are holding our first tournament of the year on Saturday May 15th. The Carol Lewis Memorial Trophy is normally held over two days, but we have had to reduce this year’s event to just one day because of covid related difficulties. Handicaps for entrants range from -1 to 18 and we look forward to some great matches. There is also an age difference between the youngest and oldest competitors of about 65 years!! We also have male and female competitors, which all goes to show that croquet can be played by everyone and everyone has a chance of winning the tournament Good luck to all players!!

Lawns open at last

The north lawns opened for play today.

3 full lawns and 2 short lawns have been marked out and are now ready to use for members. BUT please follow the rules on social distancing.

The South lawns will be open as soon as contractors have finished the work that is being done to bring the five lawns back up to a high standard

AGM

The delayed AGM took place on 9th March 2021 via a ZOOM WEBINAR

The members were informed that the club now has a healthy bank balance thanks to grants from the Government and local council which will somewhat cover the losses due to covid

It is hoped that some form of play will be available from mid April provided that the lawns can be tended after the winter.

A new committee was given the OK but there is a vacancy for Chairman
